OpenAI has finally released the ChatGPT for Windows client(click to download), but initially this new client is available only to ChatGPT subscribers. Subscribers include ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team, ChatGPT Enterprise, and ChatGPT Edu, while free users may still have to wait.

OpenAI says the Windows client has the same features as the Mac version, offering file upload capabilities, such as sending a photo for recognition or sending a document for AI summarization, and it also supports using the DALL-E 3 model to quickly generate images.

In terms of model support, in addition to the GPT-4 series, ChatGPT for Windows also supports the latest OpenAI o1-preview model, and the client can be minimized for use alongside other applications. However, there are still some limitations in feature support: at least for now, users cannot use voice command features, and of course cannot use the newly released Advanced Voice Mode either.

OpenAI says a Windows version of ChatGPT that offers the full experience will be released by the end of 2024, at which point ChatGPT for Windows will not only offer more features but may also be opened up to free users.
