Learn Your Way is an experimental AI learning tool from Google Labs, launched in September 2025, that reimagines textbooks: it turns static PDF material into a personalised, interactive experience. In short, it is an "AI-powered textbook" that re-explains the same concepts for your grade level and interests.
It is still an experiment with limited regions and places, so you may need to join a waitlist; please ask support before buying.
Learn Your Way is built on LearnLM, Google's family of models tuned for learning (now built into Gemini), and works in two stages:
① Personalised rewriting: the AI rewrites examples, wording and explanations for your chosen grade level and interests (sports, music, food, games and so on) while keeping the core concepts and their order. For Newton's third law, a sports fan might see the reaction force in a basketball dunk, while a music fan sees a vibrating guitar string.
② Multiple formats: the same content is generated in several formats you can switch between (following "dual coding" in learning science — multiple representations help memory): immersive text with embedded questions, plus
Results (from Google research): in a randomised study with 60 students aged 15–18 in the Chicago area (about 40 minutes on brain development or the immune system), the Learn Your Way group scored 9 percentage points higher on an immediate test and had 78% retention after 3–5 days, 11 points above the standard digital PDF (67%). 100% of students said they felt more comfortable taking the assessment, and 93% wanted to keep learning with it. Three education experts rated the AI content above 0.85 (out of 1.0) on accuracy, coverage and learning-science principles.
