A third-party top-up seller recently published figures: within a few days it sold 139 Claude 5x and 20x top-ups, 29 buyers reported the plan never arrived, and only 6 got a refund through Apple ID. This guide turns that notice into a pre-top-up checklist.
We start with what the numbers say, then go through the 7 situations that stop a top-up from arriving, and finish with a checklist and a safer way to subscribe.
Figures come from the seller's own notice. The sample is small and unverified, so treat it as a risk signal only and rely on official information.
1. The reality if it does not arrive
According to the notice, the seller will only hand over the Apple ID and the order record after a failed top-up and takes no responsibility for losses caused by the account itself. In the other refund cases, the Apple ID had been banned.
In short, delivery is a gamble and there is almost no safety net. The notice itself compares topping up 5x and 20x to gambling.

Figure: after a failed top-up, the buyer is left with only an Apple ID and an order record
The notice says accounts that have not passed KYC hit a KYC prompt every time, and even KYC-verified accounts can still fail. If that bothers you, do not buy.
2. Seven cases where you should not buy
1) The account has not passed KYC
KYC has to be completed first. Without it, the top-up is very unlikely to arrive.
2) The account used a $0 trial
Accounts with a zero-cost trial record are listed as ones not to top up.
3) The linked card, or the card itself, is in arrears
Outstanding balances on the linked card make the top-up fail, so clear them first.
4) It is a team account
Team accounts are not supported. Stick to personal accounts.
5) Billing says the subscription is managed on your Android device
That means the plan is billed through the Android channel. Do not top up.
6) You want to stack a top-up on an active plan
Do not overlap. Wait until the current period expires.
7) The account may already be banned
Start a chat in the account first to confirm it still works.

Figure: the 7-item pre-top-up checklist
If you are unsure about even one of the seven, treat it as failed and skip the top-up.
3. Pre-top-up checklist
| Check | Pass condition | If it fails |
|---|---|---|
| KYC | Passed | Finish KYC first |
| $0 trial history | None | Do not top up |
| Linked card | Valid, no arrears | Clear arrears first |
| Account type | Personal | Do not top up a team account |
| Billing source | Not Android | Do not top up |
| Plan status | Expired | Wait until it expires |
| Account status | Chat works | Do not top up if banned |
4. A safer way
The core problem with third-party top-ups is that your account, Apple ID and payment all pass through someone else, and you carry the loss when it goes wrong. Subscribing directly with your own account and your own payment method keeps the payment record and account status in your hands.
